The sun has set, and the moon leaves a warm glow in the garden. In the midst of the young evening beautiful maidens have taken their places in the harem. A Mughal prince enjoys the visual feast, while the hypnotic sound of a drum echoes throughout the courtyard. The night was made for wine, laughter and sensory indulgences.

This traditional Mughal miniature painting comes directly from the Indian state of Rajasthan – (historically noted as the epicenter of Mughal art). It was born from a single set of masterful artisan hands, using vibrant opaque watercolors on eco-friendly faux ivory with intricate designs.

The material used in the artwork has the look of antique ivory but is actually faux ivory that is “aged” with acrylic paint and sealed with a matte finish, giving the piece a wonderful distressed look. The whole process is very labor intensive and painstakingly achieved.

Keeping with the tradition of such art the back of the plate is also painted with beautiful objects. This concept was introduced by the British in 19th century India.

From the borders on the floor and the regal lattice work on the walls to the brocade adorning the harem girls dresses, this jewel-tone delight features an incredible amount of detail. You’ll be amazed by the level of intricacy in such a small amount of space. And whether it’s for your wall, mantle or even your desk, it’s sure to bring a smile. Buy it now.
