Presenting a superb historical painting of Sikh Guru Angad from a folio of the Janamsakhi series. The Janamsakhis, literally birth stories, are writings which profess to be biographies of the first Sikh guru, Guru Nanak. These compositions have been written at various stages after the death of the first guru.

The relatively withdrawn and contemplative character of the second Sikh Guru is well captured here. This art of the Guru has all the characteristics of the style of the 18th century Sikh paintings: elegance of expression, a great fluency of line, a lively but very discreet sense of color.

The painting makes a noble and holy impression as Guru Angad, who succeeded Guru Nanak, receives homage from devoted disciples.

The image of calm dignity is superbly hand painted and captured in opaque watercolors with an antique finish.

The original art was done in eastern India in mid 18th century and currently resides in the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, USA.
