This is Rajasthani ethnic art at its finest and presented just for you.

Pamper yourself with this beautiful Rajasthani Miniature embossed Painting of a Bioscope. The first bioscope was brought to Calcutta, India in 1896.

The concept of the bioscope is still fascinating – a hand-driven projector with a low-watt bulb is placed behind the reel. As the handle is turned, the reel moves. A person peeping through a fixed lens gets to experience a wonderful cinematic treat accompanied by music.

In the earliest days the bioscope had small windows made of steel lunchboxes with the base cut out and kids could peep through that. What you saw inside was not a movie, but a spool of still images which was rotated manually by a man. For a few paise one could look through it to just see static images strung together and not the video of the song. A hand cranked gramophone on top of the biscope provided the music.

With television, multiplexes, internet, DVD, mobile phones and other sources of entertainment overshadowing the bioscope, this art is a reminder of the days bygone, and for some a nostalgic glimpse into their childhood experiences.

You’ll fall in love with this unique artwork for its fine artistry, perfect finishes and superior craftsmanship.
