The ancient boteh motif was widely used throughout Persia and India. Also known as the ‘paisley’ or ‘pear’ motif, in Persian, boteh means a cluster of leaves, which could come from either the palm or the pine. Widely used by village weavers and nomadic tribes in their trappings, the pattern could be displayed in various directions and arrangements.

Although of Persian origin, paisley designs became very popular in the West in the 18th and 19th centuries, following imports of post-Mughal Empire versions of the design from India. Its English name derives from the town of Paisley, in the West of Scotland, a center for textiles where paisley designs were produced.

Representing the highest level of Persian style art, the modern artist has executed the painting in minute delicacy with a superb attention to details.

The handmade artwork has been brilliantly achieved with use of meticulous brushwork and fine watercolors.
