Presenting an illustration from the Collected Works of Mir Ali Shir Nawai, attributable to Shaykh Zadeh who was a Herat trained 15 c. artist. It is titled, “The Crazed Old Shaykh of Sanan”.
Mir Ali Shir Nawai (9 February 1441 – 3 January 1501) was a Central Asian Turkic politician, mystic, linguist, painter, and poet.
The illustration depicts the pious Shaykh of Sanan trying to win the affections of a Christian girl of his dreams…and in the process horrifying his colleagues. The girl and her impassioned lover are symbolized as a pair of trees, one youthful and delicate, the other past maturity and massive.
The modern artist has executed the painting in minute delicacy with a marked attention to the human subjects, flora and elaborated passages of geometric and arabesque ornament.
This is Persian style art at its finest. The superb handmade artwork has been brilliantly achieved with use of meticulous brushwork and fine watercolors. Buy it for your collection or decor today.
