Presenting a rare and dazzling Persian miniature painting you will not find elsewhere. It is a handmade reproduction from the Khamsa of Nizami and attributed to artist Mir Sayyid Ali (artist of the Safavid school).

The illuminated manuscript Khamsa of Nizami housed in the British Library is a lavishly illustrated manuscript of the Khamsa or "five poems" of Nizami Ganjavi, a 12th-century Persian poet, and was created for the Mughal Emperor Akbar in the early 1590s by a number of artists.

Shown is Majnun in chains brought by a beggar woman to Layla's tent. The story of Layla and Majnun invites comparision to Romeo and Juliet, for the Iranian lovers also met while very young and came from families traditionally hostile to one another. This ruse of Majnun disguised as a beggar boy chained to his keeper shows the extreme lengths he was forced to go in order to gain glimpses of Layla. As the story goes Majnun became so exited as he approached Layla's tent that he broke his chains and the plot was discovered.

A palette of purples, blues, and aqua greens, complemented by shimmering gold, creates a sense of vibrancy, in this Persian style art at its finest. The handmade artwork has been brilliantly achieved with use of meticulous brushwork and fine watercolors, ink and gold.
